Athletic Trainer Program
What is an athletic trainer?
"Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic trainers work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes." -National Athletic Trainers' Association
What does athletic training consist of at Magnolia West High School?
Here at Magnolia West we have two, full time, state licensed and nationally certified athletic trainers. We also have a Sports Medicine Program where students can enroll in our class to learn basic anatomy, injury prevention, medical terminology, and so much more! These students assist the staff athletic trainers in caring for the athletes at Magnolia West at both practices and games.
What's special about us?
Among other things, we are proud to say that we are mobile! The Magnolia West Mobile Sports Medicine Trailer is awesome! You may see it being pulled to Varsity Football games or other “away” events. Give us a wave if you do ;)
The Mustangs Athletic Training Staff, along with the MISD Administration thank…
Texas Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, Tomball Regional Medical Center and
Woodforest National Bank for helping to make this a reality!
Fun Fact: For over a century the caduceus has commonly been used as a symbol of medicine. The U. S. Medical Corps adopted the caduceus for U. S. medical officer uniforms in 1902. The erroneous use of the symbol then spread throughout the medical field in the United States. The two snake caduceus is actually the staff of Greek God Hermes, conductor of the dead and protector of merchants and thieves.
The staff of Asclepius has a single serpent encircling a staff, classically a rough-hewn knotty tree limb. This Staff of Asclepius is associated with the World Health Organization and is the “correct” and traditional symbol of medicine.
Our students learn a lot of hands on skills! Check it out!
