Welcome!!

I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your teen at Magnolia West High School!  This is going to be an exciting year for me.  Not only do I get the privilege to teach at one of the finest schools I have ever taught but also, I am a senior mom this year.  My youngest is a senior here at West.  So, I am all in: #WestNation!

A little bit about me...

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from New Mexico State University, which is located in lovely Las Cruces, New Mexico.  I have multiple teaching fields because my BS is a broad teaching field in social studies.  When I discovered that it was challenging to gain employment in social studies, I went back to school to earn additional credits in science.  In addition to a BS, I hold a Masters of Education Guidance and School Counseling that I received from Texas State University, located in San Marcos, Texas (also known as San Marvelous to some).  I was a school counselor in Texas for six years, a gifted education facilitator at Deming High School in New Mexico, and my favorite of all positions:  classroom teacher.  This is my twenty-fifth year in education.  I have worked with all age groups and levels in those years.  I have coached athletics and academics and sponsored clubs.  I love this career and I truly feel blessed when I go home each day knowing that I do make a difference.

A bit about our classes...

We use CANVAS for almost all of our assignments.  Students can find assignments and resources in CANVAS 24-7.  They log into "CLASSLINK from Home" from the applications link under "Students & Parents" on our school webpage.  The code is MagnoliaTX.  This program has really made a huge difference in the number of students I have who are able to stay on top of their assignments and remain passing (and for some earn those A's!). **All announcements go through Remind or Canvas.**

Besides my teaching responsibilities at West, I am the sponsor for Science Fair.  If your Mustang has a problem they want to solve or a question to explore, please contact me.  We are trying to dig back into our science roots and find the joy of discovery through science.  Science is about curiosity!

I also coach UIL Academics in Science and Social Studies.  If your Mustang is interested in competing in one of these areas, please contact me () or Tom Wurst (UIL Coordinator) at

Finally, I am very dedicated to helping students be successful and I am a highly-qualified teacher in earth and life science and social studies.  My philosophy is that all students are gifted in some way and part of my job is to help them unwrap those gifts.  More importantly, I feel that school is a vessel to prepare students for life after high school.
